Per today's Class A championship in Kentucky high-school football, topix.com user "eagle nation" this week forecasted from Ashland, "cards had a nice season..but these eastern ky hard core boys will show yall what physical fb is all about....game will be close but eagles will win...very tough front line...with the best three backs in the state..combined that is...very fast. eastern ky will win again...seems like from now on against the western cream puff teams...mayfields district is the weakest in state...district 7 fairview, raceland..nicholas co. paintsville..will put them against any 1A team around."

"No Way" from Mayfield countered, "I only hope they make it better in life than you did. Setting at home on your fat lazy welfare butt knocking our team down."

But then "B I T W" in Ashland went, "believe in the wood...WESTWOOD KY !! gonna represent the state with some eastern flavor...be there in a few days haters!!"

And then "Mayfield" was all like, "Y'all ain't got nothin y'all ain't seen the best running back yet you will Friday after y'all's linebackers is on there back ha ha !!!"

Oh, snap. Fire up the printer, and strap on your headphones--it's state-championship time, baby! Here's this weekend's lineup of finals at Western Kentucky University's L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green.

Class A, Westwood Fairview vs. Mayfield, 11 a.m. Central Friday--Mark Maynard, great, in Ashland's Daily Independent: "Fairview and Mayfield — the counterparts in today’s Class A state championship at noon — are 384 miles apart, according to Google maps. By those calculations, those schools are five miles further than the state is long!" ... The Mayfield Cardinals lost, 24-6, to Hazard in the 2011 Class A championship. They were Class 2A state champs in 1977-78, 1985-86 and 1993 and Class A champs in 1995, 2002 and 2010. ... Fairview has never won a state championship, but where do these Eagles rank among all Eagles? ... "BITW," BTW, is for "Believe in the 'Wood." ... The Eagles' defense has been impressive this eason--especially the starters. ... Cardinals quaterback Jake Guhy is getting the same second chance his brother made the most of in 2010. ... Class 3A, Belfry vs. Louisville Central, 3 p.m. Central Friday--The Central Yellowjackets were 2007-08 and 2010-11 Class 3A champs. ... The Pirates won 2A championships in 2003 and '04. ... Class 4A, Shelbyville Martha Layne Collins vs. Fort Thomas Highlands, 7 p.m. Central Friday--The media up in northern Kentucky seem to feel pretty confident in the ol' Bluebirds, wondering whether the Collins nickname is "Lady Governors" and about the whereabouts Friday evening of Cris Collinsworth. ... Highlands coach Dale Mueller, however, is providing the Titans with no bulletin-board material. ... In addition to being the defending Class 4A champs, the Bluebirds were 2007-10 5A champs; 1975, 1977, 1981-82, 1989, 1996, 1998-2000 and 2004 3A champs, and 1960-61, 1964, 1968 and 1970 2A champs. ... Collins made the 4A semis last season, too. ... Bob White, in The Courier-Journal, says a middle school on the west side of Shelby County is a primary reason for the rapid rise of Collins. ... Class 2A, Caldwell County vs. Newport Central Catholic, 11 a.m. Central Saturday--The Caldwell County Tigers were state 2A champs in 1963 and 1998. ... Class 5A, Union Randall K. Cooper vs. Bowling Green, 3 p.m. Central Saturday--The Cooper Jaguars haven't made it to Bowling Green yet; the school is having a pep rally for the team in Union tonight. ... The Bowling Green Purples are the defending 5A champs, and they won 3A in 1995. ... Cooper, which opened in 2008, has never won a state football championship. ... Only one coach in the history of Kentucky high-school football has taken three different schools to state-championship games. It was Dan Haley, who led Lexington Bryan Station to a 1969 2A loss to Elizabethtown; Paducah Tilghman to the 1973 2A win over Boyd County and 1980 4A loss to Trinity, and Bowling Green to the 1994 3A loss to Covington Catholic and 1995 3A win over Highlands. My brother failed to make the cut as a reserve center with the '73 Blue Tornado--but not before the team picture was snapped. ... Class 6A, Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park vs. Louisville Trinity, 7 p.m. Central Saturday--History is on the side of the 'Rocks. ... Trinity's state championships: 6A in 2007-08 and 2010-11; 4A in 1976-77, 1980, 1983, 1985, 1988-90, 1994, 2001-03 and 2005-06, and 3A in 1968 and 1972-73. ... Nary a one for the Panthers. ... Trinity's James Quick is considered to be the state's top player. ... But Mike Fields reports in the Lexington Herald-Leader that Quick is unlikely to play against PRP. ...
