That Madisonville game was a heartbreaker for visiting Owensboro. Mike Stunson reported in The Messenger that first-half time expired on a Red Devils punt return to the Madisonville 12 and the Maroons up, 6-0; that Owensboro mounted a drive to the Madisonville 2 to start the second half, but the Red Devils failed on a fourth down, and then that Owensboro, having taken a 9-6 lead, yielded a 90-yard touchdown drive to the Maroons in the game's final three minutes.
