The Rev.  Poorest town, per USA Today, is Glasgow.

 Leah Shields with Channel 6 reports that McCracken County's jail is built to house 342 inmates; there are 440 people living there now--several, sleeping on the floors.

As broken in 2011 by the HP, Jackie DeShannon is from Hazel, and now she's part of the 2018 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame class--along with "Stringbean," et al.

 The unemployment rate went down in 82 Kentucky counties from October 2015 to October 2016, up in 33 and stayed the same in five. The low was 3 percent in Woodford County; the high, 14.1 in Magoffin. And statewide, it was 4.6 percent--a tick better than the national (4.7).

Oh, Kentucky


The NRA wrapped up its big convention in Louisville on Sunday.

 Flatwoods strikes back at the federal directive on bathroom usage by transgender people.

 The new Kentucky State Police cadet class has arrived in Frankfort.

 They shan't drive 55, across U.S. 45 and U.S. 641.

 A couple of new U.S. Department of Agriculture grants are intended to help spur job creation and aid utility management in "persistent poverty areas" of Kentucky.

 CovCath is launching random drug testing for all students next school year.

The Red Devils play the Highlands Bluebirds (47-26 semifinal winners over Lexington Catholic) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the Class 4A state championship.


Final in Belfry: Pirates 33, Flatwoods Russell 0. The defending champs play the Louisville Central Yellowjackets (16-14 semifinal winners over Bowling Green South Warren) at 11 a.m. Friday for the Class 3A championship.


Final in Edgewood: Dixie Heights 48, Louisville Ballard 21. The Colonels play the Louisville Trinity Shamrocks (48-0 semifinal winners at Meade County) at 6 p.m. Saturday for the Class 6A championship.


Final at Southern: DeSales 14, Murray 7. The defending-champion Colts play the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds (43-14 semifinal winners at Pikeville Shelby Valley) at 2:30 p.m. Friday for the Class 2A championship.


Final in Elizabethtown: Graves County 28, John Hardin 23. The Eagles play the Pulaski County Maroons (33-7 semifinal winners over Union Randall K. Cooper) at 6 p.m. Friday for the Class 5A championship.


Final in Raceland: Williamsburg 34, Raceland-Worthington 8. The Yellow Jackets play the defending-champion Mayfield Cardinals (35-24 semifinal winners at Fort Mitchell Beechwood) at 11 a.m. Saturday for the Class A championship.

Kentucky High-school Football, State Semifinals

Next weekend, all roads lead to Bowling Green, but tonight we have 13 routes of team and fan buses, cars too-packed with students and minivans of parents, neighbors and extended family in for Thanksgiving weekend, streaming (roughly eastward) across the state to see semifinals in the state playoffs. For all of them and everyone else on the roads and not on the roads, in Kentucky and not in Kentucky, we pray that "the Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore."

Kentucky High-school Football, Round of Eight Wrap

It was a riveting night of high-school football around Kentucky on Friday night, and, indeed, it got off to great-looking start in Frankfort on Monday, where the Panthers practiced right on through the snow in anticipation of their trip to Fort Mitchell Beechwood for the Class A Region 2 final ...

Apparently, Corbin started prepping for the Class 3A Region 2 final even further back than that ...


These are heady times wherever football teams are still playing so late in November. For example, in Brandenburg, where 2013 state-runnerup Meade County was coming off a round-of-16 win over Scott County, the defending Class 6A champ ...



And, in Somerset, where the local paper got to talk up both teams in the Class 5A Region 4 final ...



Louisville Fairdale got set up early Friday morning for the Class 4A Region 2 final ...



I have not gotten to be apart of nearly enough team pictures in my life ...



At midday Friday, the Bourbon County Colonels were on the road to greater Flatwoods for their 3A Region 3 final ...



By late afternoon, the sign-makers at state-champ Bowling Green were ready for Graves County's arrival for the Class 5A Region 1 clash ...




Friday evening finally arrives, and we're nearing kickoff at Christian Academy-Louisvile for the Class 2A Region 2 final with defending-champ DeSales ...



And, about an hour later, we're about to get the party started in the Central time zone, too ...



First, let's get to the sad story of the night, from the 2A Region 1 final in Princeton ...













Meanwhile, over in the 5A Region 1 final at Bowling Green, the thrice-defending state champ ...



And, in Owensboro, we have a story developing, as Madisonville-North Hopkins is up, 21-6, at the half (but) ...



 From the 3A Region 2 final at Corbin ...



Still 7-0, Graves, at BG ...



Wow, from Corbin ...



Wait ... what?



Back in Owensboro, the Red Devils had ridden their end-of-first-half spark to pull even with Madisonville-North Hopkins, but now the Maroons surge back ahead ...



Minutes later, however, the Rash Stadium faithful thrills as their Red Devils answer with a quick touchdown and take their first lead with a two-point conversion ...







Meanwhile, in Bowling Green, it's getting late and the champs still trail Graves County by 7-0 ...

Final: Graves 7, Bowling Green 0 ...








And, back up in Owensboro, the Red Devils are completing an astounding comeback, stopping Madisonville-North Hopkins on a fourth-and-goal from the 1 with 4:38 to go, converting a fake punt (!) on fourth-and-6 from their own 6 (!) with 2 minutes to go and a 29-28 lead and then intercepting a late Maroons' throw ...



They share a field, but Newport Central Catholic's victory over Newport turned out to be one of three victories by road teams in the 2A regional finals. Friday's 2A winners: Murray, 47-28, at Caldwell County in Region 1; DeSales, 7-6, at CAL in 2; NewCath, 42-26, at Newport in 3, and Pikeville Shelby Valley, 20-14 in overtime (check out this video), over Prestonsburg.




Final from Lawrenceburg, in 5A Region 3: Union Randall K. Cooper 61, Anderson County 14 ...





In Class 4A Region 4, the final was 37-34, so, surely, Fort Thomas Highlands had a much tougher struggle in beating Covington Catholic than this video suggests ...




Class 6A winners: Louisville Trinity over Louisville Saint Xavier (as depicted below), 9-3, in Region 1; Meade County over Elizabethtown Central Hardin over Meade County (as reported here), 30-8, in 2; Louisville Ballard over Louisville Butler, 14-7, in 3, and Edgewood Dixie Heights over Independence Simon Kenton, 24-0, in 4.



Final from Somerset, in 5A Region 4: Pulaski 24, Southwestern 16 ...


And we mentioned Graves County's win in Region 1 and Cooper's in Region 3. The other 5A winner was Elizabethtown John Hardin, 7-6 over Louisville Iroquois in Region 2. For Bowling Green's seniors, this is the first varsity season that won't end with a state championship ...



Your 3A regional champs: South Warren (which apparently shared sign-making tips with their cross-town Purples), 36-0, over Paducah Augusta Tilghman in Region 1; Central, 36-33, at Corbin in 2; Russell, 17-7, over Bourbon County in 3, and defending-champ Belfry, 48-14, over Lawrence County in 4.

Final from Owensboro, in 4A Region 1: Owensboro 29, Madisonville-North Hopkins 28. We mentioned that Highlands won Region 4. Region 2 winner was Goshen North Oldham, 47-18 over Louisville Fairdale; Region 3, Lexington Catholic, 40-35 over Boyle County.


Oh, yeah, Class A … Mayfield, 42-14, over Russellville in Region 1; Beechwood, 46-21, over Frankfort in 2; Williamsburg over Hazard, 48-14, in 3, and Raceland, 32-21, over Paintsville in 4.
