I'm going to have to come up with a custom hashtag for my rock-solid, recurring observation about how great the meeting coverage is in contemporary newspaper journalism. Anyway, here's another perfect example, from Anthony Cloud in the Middlesboro Daily News from the Bell County Fiscal Court: "That tells me if there is a needle exchange in Middlesboro, a minimum of 100 people are going to drive through the tunnel out of Tennessee that wouldn’t have otherwise. They either, a. are high, (or) b. going to get high. To ignore that would be being naive."

And here's another, from Richard Burkard, in Madisonville's Messenger, on the Historic Planning Commission and the owner of a 90-year-old Chevy dealership and other downtown buildings and his desire to have those properties excluded from the town's historic district: "They take care of their own." (Maybe it'll be #RockSolidJournalismObservations.)

Regarding Florence Henderson's grand marshaling Owensboro's Nov. 21 Christmas parade, Owensboro Parent Magazine reports: "Florence sounds just as excited as the committee is. In an email to Owensboro Parent, Henderson said, 'Coming home to Owensboro is always a treat because I still have so many friends and relatives there! They are as excited as I am about the parade!' She added that she is very proud to say she spent her 'growing up' years in Owensboro, and thinks the improvements to the riverfront are 'spectacular!'"

Kentucky High-school Basketball, Girls' Regionals

Kentucky's single-class, single-elimination tournaments in high-school basketball get rolling today with action scheduled in the Ninth Region's girls' bracket. Fourteen of the 16 girls' regionals were to tip today, but then it snowed. So, now, we can all focus on action at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights when the 18-11 Saint Henry Crusaders of Erlanger and the 22-7 Highlands Bluebirds of Fort Thomas play at 6:30 Eastern this evening.

Anyway, the 16 eight-team girls' regionals are scheduled to all be finished by Sunday, and then the state tournament is set for March 12-16 in Bowling Green. Until about 7:45 or so at NKU, we have 128 teams with a chance to be the state champs, and here they are as listed by their next games.
