  1. After a rain delay, Seattle hammers the Tigers 8 to 4.

  2. In the nightcap, the Blue Jays lead 6-1 after 2 1/2 innings. But the Yankees get two runs back in the bottom of the 3d. And in the bottom of the 4th, Aaron Judge homers off the foul pole in left. It's a three-run homer, and we are tied at 6.

  6. We have returned from visits to Northeastern and Boston universities with my daughter, and yesterday I got to walk around Fenway Park yesterday just a bit. I was surprised how moving I found it to look at the new statues and signage around the old stadium and mill through the streets of memorabilia shops and taverns. I like thinking about all of that activity and effort around something as fun as baseball.

Also, I was reminded that there was a very short period when we were kids that I decided to try on the Red Sox as my second-favorite baseball team. This almost had to be still in the first years of the Jim Rice and Fred Lynn careers because I definitely glommed on to the Yankees for a little bit with the Reggie Jackson home runs in the 1977 World Series, and then I really, really went crazy for the Pirates when they won in 1979 just as I was becoming cognizant that Heath was going to share their team colors and mascot.
