Now that we've wrapped up the KHSAA football playoffs, we can start focusing on basketball.  Today the AP issued its first boys' basketball poll of the year, which gives us the following top ten:

4.  Lou. Ballard:  4-0
5.  Lou. Trinity:  5-1
6.  Bowling Green:  5-0
7.  N. Laurel:  5-2
8.  Lou. Western:  5-1
9.  Mason Co:  4-0
10.  Harlan Co:  4-1

The King of the Bluegrass Tournament starts at Lou. Fairdale on Friday.  It will feature the following matchups in the first round:

  1. Madisonville-North is 7-1, but its loss was by 21 at home to Henderson County, so ...

    Warren Cent. (7-0) v. N. Oldham (7-3)

  5. Great Crossing leads Lyon County 18-5 with 2:01 left in the first quarter.

  6. Great Crossing beats Lyon County 69-61 and moves to the final.

  7. Warren Central beats North Oldham 71-57 and the Dragons will meet Great Crossing in the final.

  8. Great Crossing is the new high school in Scott County. It opened in 2019, and it's nickname is the Warhawks.

  9. It's interesting that in the Bluegrass they are opening new high schools like Lexington Douglass and Great Crossing, and in Western Kentucky they're getting rid of old high schools like Heath, Lone Oak, Reidland, Hopkinsville, and Christian County.

  10. Warren Central pounded Great Crossing 89-56 to win the King of the Bluegrass. Last year, the Dragons lost to George Rogers Clark 43-42 in the final of the State Tournament. This year, they could go all the way.

  11. Lyon County lost 107-73 to North Oldham and came in fourth place at the King of the Bluegrass.

  12. Meanwhile, Madisonville won its tournament, the First United Bank Holiday Classic:

    Monday, Dec. 19:
    Madisonville-North Hopkins 65, N. Hardin 60
