  1. In 2018, Croatia reached the final by winning two matches on penalty kicks, and then beating England in extra time. In this tournament, Croatia has reached the semi-final by beating Japan and Brazil on penalty kicks. But Argentina apparently has no intention of letting this game go to penalty kicks.

  2. In the 34th minute, Lionel Messi banged home a penalty to put Argentina up 1-0, and five minutes later, Julian Alvarez got a breakaway and dribbled half the field to score a spectacular one-man goal. So Argentina leads 2-0 after 45 minutes.

  3. Of course, Argentina had a 2-0 lead against the Dutch, and ended up having to win on penalty kicks. So it's not over yet.

  4. Argentina cruises into the final with an easy 3-0 victory. This will be Argentina's sixth trip to the final. They won it all in 1978 (Netherlands) and 1986 (W. Germany). They lost in 1930 (Uruguay), 1990 (W. Germany), and 2014 (Germany).

  5. I paid barely a lick of attention to Diego Maradona in 1986. He might be the biggest global figure of that year about whom I have almost no genuine, first-hand feelings.
