Usually you save the mountains for later in the race. The problem for KY is that so much of it is flat in the west. Probably what they would do in reality is find a series of tough little climbs somewhere and setup the race to be a circuit style, say around Bowling Green and maybe around Madisonville so that you would have a couple of tough races in there more aimed at breakaways succeeding, so you limit the number of days geared for sprinters. I didn't have the time to try and figure something like that out.
It's also likely that the two days in the hills they would try and find some harder climbs to bring into the race so they could potentially become real GC battles, but again I'm limited in my knowledge of these areas and by time, so this is just a general idea.
I'm really enjoying this series, but I wonder if they wouldn't start by going to the mountains before going west.
