Liberty Bowl

For the Liberty Bowl, we have a 9-2 Army team taking on a 5-4 West Virginia team.  I will bet that both of these teams will play hard from beginning to end.  West Virginia is wearing their home blues with their NASCAR-style numbers and blue pants.  Blue helmets with a special decal -- the map of West Virginia decorated as an American flag.  Army is wearing its traditional road whites, gold pants, gold helmet with black stripe, and black stencil numerals -- one of the very uniforms in all of sports.  Let's hope for a good game.

  1. This has been a hard-fought defensive struggle so far. WVU leads 3-0 after 1 quarter.

  2. I just listened to "Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelberg, so I'm ready for New Year's Eve.

    1. One of the interesting things about being in your 50's is that you realize how much you've grown since you were in your 30's. "Auld Lang Syne" really captures a certain mood that I really associate with my 30's, and that feels very young to me now.

    2. I've never paid a lick of attention to the lyrics of that song until yesterday. One of the lines caught my attention this year, though--now I need to go back and read the whole thing.

    1. And yes, I know they now call themselves the Black Knights. But I don't care. They were the Cadets when they won it all in 1944 and 1945, and they're the Cadets still.

  9. But the Mountaineers strike back with a long TD drive of their own. They go for 2, but don't make it. Army leads 21-16 with 3:23 left in the 3d quarter.

  10. After scoring a touchdown, WVU successfully executed an ONSIDE KICK. But the Army defense held, and WVU had to punt.

  18. What a game! Everyone in the SEC should have watched these two teams, to see how you're supposed to act in a Bowl Game.

    1. I'm going to be interested to see what you have to say about the Peach Bowl. Looking bad for Georgia.

Here should've been the pairings for the CFB20 national tournament:

      -- Clemson (4 seed) vs. Alabama (1)
      -- Cincinnati (3) vs. Ohio State (2)

Again, the correct national tournament is every undefeated team in the country, plus the top AP-ranked teams with losses, up to four, eight or 16 teams. If you have zero, one, two, three or four undefeated teams, you have a tournament of two rounds and four teams; if you have five, six, seven or eight undefeated, you have a tournament of three rounds and eight teams; if you have nine, etc., ... four and 16. I should be commissioner of all the leagues.

    2. I wanted Cincinnati to be the number-4 seed. I thought they would beat Georgia, and I was pleasantly surprised that Georgia pulled it out.

    3. Auburn, on the other hand, performed as I expected.
