Last Week in Western Kentucky

One of the great games in recent Western Kentucky history took place on November 1, 2013, when Caldwell County stunned the all-conquering Mayfield Cardinals, beating them 48-41.  The Tigers almost did it again last week, but Mayfield broke hearts all over Princeton, kicking a late field goal for a 25-24 victory.

Mayfield is tough.

Still, at least the folks in Princeton got to see some fourth-quarter drama -- something that was pretty rare in these parts during October.  There was also high drama in Fulton, where City completed its sweep of County.  And Madisonville pulled out a close win over Fort Campbell.  Three close games in one week -- be still, my beating heart.

Here are the scores from the last week of the regular season (home teams listed first):

Ballard Mem. 55 - 21 Crittenden Co.
Bowling Green 38 - 14 McCracken Co.
Caldwell Co. 24 - 25 Mayfield
Fulton City 22 - 20 Fulton Co.
Graves Co. 51 - 12 Calloway Co.
Hopkins Co. Cent. 0 - 28 Union Co.
Hopkinsville 62 - 17 Marshall Co.
Madisonville-North Hopkins 28 - 27 Fort Campbell
Paducah Tilghman 35 - 21 Murray
