NCAA Baseball Super Regionals, Day Three

Here's where everything stands after Sunday:

Chapel Hill:  UNC and South Carolina are tied 1-1; their series will be decided in a game that starts at 6 P.M. Central today.  UNC has to win so that they can go to Omaha and end NCSU's season.

Raleigh:  N.C. State is going to the CWS for the first time since 1968 after beating Rice 4-3 and 5-4 (in 17 innings).

Fullerton:  UCLA beat Cal-State Fullerton 5-3 (in 10 innings) and 3-0.

Baton Rouge:  LSU beat Oklahoma 2-0 and 11-1.

Nashville:  Louisville beat Vanderbilt 5-3 and 2-1.

Tallahassee:  Indiana beat Florida St. 10-9 and 11-6.

Charlottesville:  Mississippi State beat Virginia 11-6 in Game One; MSU was leading Game Two 5-3 in the 7th when the game was stopped by rain.  Play will resume today at 3 P.M. Central.

Corvallis:  Kansas State beat Oregon State 6-2 (in 10 innings) in Game One;  the Beavers returned the favor with a 12-4 victory in Game Two.  The series will be decided tonight in a game starting at 9 P.M. Central.

  1. The game between UNC and South Carolina has been rained out; that game will be played at 11 A.M. Central tomorrow.

  2. In the bottom of the 8th, Mississippi State leads UVA 6-3.

  3. Mississippi State almost blew their game with UVA, giving up two runs in the 9th to make the score 6-5. Finally, with two outs and runners on second and third, UVA was in position to take the lead with a single. Instead, the UVA runner grounded out to third.

So the Wahoos join Vanderbilt, Florida State, and Cal-State Fullerton as teams that were eliminated in the Super Regional on their home field. MSU goes to the College World Series for the first time since 2007.
