Album Review: Welcome to Strangeland by Tech N9ne Collabos

I have listened to this album way too many times trying to decide what I think of it. Not sure why it has taken me so long, but sometimes it's just that way with me.

Tech N9ne puts out work under two names. Tech N9ne is his solo work and then he does stuff as Tech N9ne Collabos which are mix tapes and collaborative efforts with other artists. This album is a bit interesting in that through the 15 tracks he tries to keep a theme going. It is in essence a concept album and that's an interesting path to take on an album that features different artists on almost every track.

In some ways it works. The sound is consistent across the album and I like the sound a lot. It's dirty and dark with good hooks and good beats spread throughout. Where the album falls short is in the lyrics. It has it's moments, but the problem with most of the collaborative work in hip-hop is that the rappers often use it as a way for throw off songs about sex, guns, etc. The usual problems I have with hip-hop.

I could see picking a few songs off of here for a mix tape or workout tape, but all in all I would give the album a pass.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.
