Final Standings

Here are the final standings for high school football in western Kentucky:

Class 1A, District 1
Mayfield 9-1, 3-0
Russellville, 7-3, 2-1
Fulton Co. 1-8, 1-2
Fulton City 1-0, 0-3

This is one of the most difficult classes to predict, because it's just impossible to tell how Mayfield stacks up against the rest of the state until they actually play each other.  Having said that, I expect the Cardinals to make their usual deep tournament run.

Class 2A, District 1
Caldwell Co. 7-3, 4-0
Murray 8-2, 3-1
Ballard Mem. 7-3, 2-2
Crittenden Co. 3-7, 1-3
Reidland 4-6, 0-4

Neither Caldwell Co. nor Murray can get past Owensboro Catholic, which has a very good chance to go all the way.

Class 3A, District 1
Fort Campbell 8-2, 4-0
Paducah Tilghman 7-3, 3-1
Trigg Co. 5-5, 2-2
Heath 3-7, 1-3
Webster Co. 1-9, 0-4

Fort Campbell and Tilghman would actually have a better chance of winning the 4A title.  Unfortunately, 3A belongs to Louisville Central, which should rack up its fifth title in the last six years.

Class 4A, District 1
Owensboro 6-4, 3-1
Lone Oak 7-3, 3-1
Madisonville-North Hopkins  6-4, 3-1
Calloway Co. 5-5, 1-3
Hopkins Co. Cent. 0-10, 0-4

Class 4A is basically a walkover for Ft. Thomas Highlands, who will win the title without having a close game in the playoffs.

Class 5A, District 1
Graves Co. 8-2, 4-0
Christian Co. 8-2, 3-1
Hopkinsville 3-6, 2-2
Owensboro Apollo 2-8, 1-3
Ohio Co.  3-7, 0-4

A great year for Graves Co., which should be very proud of winning a pretty tough district.  But no one in 5A can touch Bowling Green, who will win the state title again.

Class 6A, District 1
Henderson Co. 8-2, 3-0
Daviess Co. 5-5, 2-1
Marshall Co. 5-5, 1-2
Muhlenberg Co. 2-8, 0-3

Interestingly enough, I would pick Mayfield, Fort Campbell, or Graves Co. to win this district if they were in it.  As for the playoffs, all you need to know is that Trinity has already beaten Louisville St. X 34-7 this year, so they will roll to their tenth title in the last 12 years without too much trouble.  Unfortunately for the Shamrocks, their chance at national attention was ruined by their loss to Cincinnati Moeller.

  1. I concur mostly with your assessment. I'm guessing Mayfield-Fairview in the A final (push), NewCath over OweCath in 2A, Central over Breathitt in 3A, (SHOCKER) Warren East over Highlands in 4A, Bowling Green over Franklin County in 5A and Trinity over PRP in 6A.
