The Freakin' Weekend (1970)

ABC's Wide World of Sports is carrying the Rebel 400 NASCAR Grand National Race from Darlington, S.C.

I don't know what this college-basketball game is that CBS is scheduled to be showing tonight, but, per the Kentucky New Era TV grid, it will apparently be pre-empting my My Three Sons rerun and might push me over to Lawerence Welk.

I don't often watch Lawrence Welk, but the old boy did have a winning appearance on Here's Lucy this season.

It's only Game 4 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but it appears the NHL also might be wrapping up its 1969-70 season this weekend.

Even this week's Sports Illustrated doesn't look particularly enticing ..

It's a huge college-football Saturday, Nov. 22, 1969.

Looking at the TV listings in Hopkinsville's Kentucky New Era, it appears we're going to get at least two and maybe three college-football games on TV.

No. 1, national-champ Ohio State is 8-0. Under its new coach, Bo Schembechler, Michigan is 7-2 and ranked 12th. 

Should be a good game, and here's Bill Flemming with Buckeyes coach Woody Hayes to talk about it ....

If not the whole game, maybe we'll also get some highlights from No. 16 Nebraska at Oklahoma ...

Early in the evening, we're on for No. 5 USC vs. No. 6 UCLA ...

By the way, as you know, Kentucky lost to No. 18 West Virginia a couple of weeks ago. (The Mountaineers' only loss to Penn State.) I just wanted to post these great pictures of UK's scoreboard and uniforms in that game ...

On Sunday, of course, we'll see what four pro-football games we get ...

So Jeannie C. Riley did come to the Western Kentucky State Fair, and I thought she was great, but, apparently, not everyone is like rich Hoptown 1969 me.

I'm going to take a good, long look at baseball this weekend, ...

... because I'm about to become distracted.

The Freakin' Weekend (1969)

This is not shaping up as the most exciting weekend in the world for Hoptown 1969 me. The women of my real house in 2015 are out of town at camp; I'm going to pretend Hoptown 1969 me is in the same lonely, dry-season predicament. So, for example, while I might get out to the Holiday Inn on Sunday afternoon for some chicken and White House potatoes, I'm probably not going to whoop it up with Ross Sisk and Band at the VFW tonight.

None of the movies in town particularly interest me.

I really like the No. 1 country song right now, Jack Greene's "Statue of a Fool." I mentioned the other day that I've decided that Hoptown 1969 me is rich; maybe I'll just go out and buy that record and listen to it all weekend.

He already had another No. 1 hit earlier in the year, and that was from a whole other album. Jack Greene, born 1930 in Maryville, Tennessee, is having a very big 1969.

I don't know. I'll probably end up watching a lot of TV.
