Pan Am Medal Count

I think this is the final medal count from Lima:

USA:  120G + 88S + 85B = 293

BRA:  55G + 45S + 71B = 171

CAN:  35G + 64S + 53B = 152

MEX:  37G + 36S + 63B = 136

On the whole, the USA won 293 medals out of a total of 1,361, for a total of 21.5 percent.  In the 2015 Pan Am games, we won 265 medals out of a total of 1,185, for a total of 22.4 percent.

Here's the live medal count for the top four countries at the Pan Am Games in Lima, Peru:

USA:  73G + 58S + 50B = 181
CAN:  25G + 42S + 38B = 105
BRA:  31G + 26S + 47B = 104
MEX:  26G + 22S + 42B = 90

I have no idea how many medals are left, but the trend looks pretty good to me.  Last night I watched some of the swimming on ESPN2, and the Americans were crushing everyone.  They played the national anthem about six or seven times while I was watching, and I enjoyed it every time.

I suppose the other hemisphere will show up at Tokyo for the Olympics next year, and that will make everything so much more stressful.

An Olympic Mistake

I'm glad that the Modern Pentathlon was preserved, but I am appalled that the Olympics have dropped wrestling from the 2020 games.

So we're going to have ping pong, and trampoline, and rhythmic gymnastics, but no wrestling?  Unbelievable.
