MLB Preview

MLB 2026 starts tonight.  I intend to watch the most baseball I've seen since at least 2019.  Here are the top favorites to win each league:

NATIONAL LEAGUE:
Los Angeles:  +120
N.Y. Mets:  +700
Philadelphia:  +800
Chi. Cubs:  +900
Atlanta:  +900

The Nats are +30,000.  I believe that the Nats' actual chances are much worse than that.

AMERICAN LEAGUE:
N.Y. Yankees:  +450
Seattle:  +500
Toronto:  +650
Boston:  +700
Detroit:  +900
Baltimore:  +950

The A's are +3,000.

  1. Astros are +1,000. Could it be that the Astros -- who missed the playoffs last year -- are finally finished?

  2. The 2026 Season begins tonight in Oracle Park with a matchup between two ancient rivals -- the Giants and the Yankees.

  3. The Giants hired Tony Vitello to be their new manager. Vitello, who took Tennessee to the College World Series title a few years ago, may be the best college coach I've ever seen. But it will be interesting to see how he does in MLB. I've never heard of a college coach being put in charge of a Major League team before.

  4. Last season was the best season in the majors since at least 2003, and was probably the best since 1986. So I am pretty pumped up for this season.

  5. The first game of the year will be on Netflix, because -- well, I have no idea why, but I'm pretty sure that money is involved.

  6. I'm serious about this new season. I've got WFAN dialed in. I've got Netflix ready to go. I'm listening to the Yankees' pregame right now.

  7. I'm supposed to have WFAN. Instead, I'm getting the Giants' pregame show. Oh, well.

  8. I have also broken out the vintage 1970's pennants for the Yankees and the Giants. They look great. Two of the best logos ever developed.

  9. According to KNBR, it's 66 and breezy in San Francisco.

  10. Best parks in the majors:

    1. Dodger Stadium
    2. Oracle Park
    3. Fenway Park
    4. Wrigley Field
    5. PNC Park

  11. The great Jon Miller, now 74 years old, is still doing the KNBR broadcast.

  12. Only national anthem that ends on a question.

  13. WFAN broadcast now available on the MLB App. Dave Syms and Suzyn Waldman. Good to hear them again, although technically Jon Miller is better.

  14. Yankees lead 7-0 after five. Yankee announcers are pleased.

  15. Nats open with a 10-4 win over the Cubs in Wrigley. Tomorrow the world.

  16. Nats are now 9-13 on Opening Day since beginning play in 2005.
