Ole Miss goes to Starkville and hammers Mississippi State, 38 to 19. The Rebels finish 11-1. Lane Kiffin says that he has "a lot of praying to do" before making his decision about where he will coach next year.

ReplyDeleteNow ABC takes us to Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, where Georgia Tech is about to play Georgia. The Bulldogs lead this series: 72-41-5. They are currently on a seven-game winning streak against the Yellow Jackets.
ReplyDeleteOle Miss now leads the Egg Bowl series: 65-46-6. The Rebels have now won three in a row over the Bulldogs.
ReplyDeleteGeorgia Tech is supposed to be the home team today, but the game is not at Grant Field, and the Dawgs should have a huge advantage in terms of crowd support.

ReplyDeleteVandy signs coach Clark Lea to a new contract. That's a huge accomplishment, given how many big schools are looking for new coaches. It's past time to recognize the outstanding job Candice Storey Lee is doing as the AD at Vanderbilt. As of now, Vandy is ranked in football, women's basketball, and men's basketball. Their women's soccer team is in the NCAA quarter-finals. This type of success was unheard of at Vandy before Candice Storey Lee took over.
ReplyDeleteLast year, Candice Storey Lee was one of only 28 recipients of the AD of the Year Award from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. She deserved it.

ReplyDeleteIf I were in Lane Kiffin's position, I would stay at Ole Miss. I certainly would not want to deal with the drama at LSU. But he and I have very different personalities.

You want The London Festival Orchestra and Band conducted by Robert Sharples for the Phase 4 Stereo Pop Concert Series. It was never released on CD, and you'll never find an album of it that's not scratched up. But there's a very clear version on YouTube.

ReplyDeleteTrailing 16-6 in the fourth quarter, Tech drives into Georgia territory, but their drive is killed by a personal foul on an offensive lineman. Don't see too many of those. Anyway, that should finish off Tech. The Dawgs lead 16-6 with 10:25 left in the game, and Georgia has the ball.

ReplyDeleteFlorida is reportedly looking at Jon Sumrall of Tulane to be its next football coach. Sumrall is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, but as we all know UK already has a football coach, so the Cats aren't interested in Sumrall.

ReplyDeleteOne reason that there's so much populism in Kentucky is that the folks who run Kentucky really believe in using their power. In no other state are folks more willing to run up the score. If you want to survive in the Commonwealth, you get pretty good at figuring out who has leverage and who doesn't.

ReplyDeleteIf A & M wins this game tonight, they are in the SEC Championship game next week. If they lose tonight, they will miss the SEC Championship game.
ReplyDeleteAmazingly, this is the first time all year that A & M has played an SEC opponent that is currently ranked in the AP's top 25. Four of A & M's SEC wins came against teams who have already fired their coaches. The other three came against Mississippi State, Missouri, and South Carolina.
ReplyDeleteSo the Aggies managed to avoid Georgia, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Alabama, Vandy, and Tennessee. That's some pretty good scheduling.
