Month of MLB, Day 10

Four potential elimination games yesterday, but only one team was eliminated.  Here were the scores (home teams listed first):

Detroit 9 - 3 Seattle
Chicago 4 - 3 Milwaukee
New York 2 - 5 Toronto
Los Angeles 2 - 8 Philadelphia

So the Yankees are eliminated, and the Divisional Series look like this:

NATIONAL LEAGUE:
Milwaukee 2 - 1 Chicago
Philadelphia 1 - 2 Los Angeles

AMERICAN LEAGUE:
Toronto 3 - 1 New York
Seattle 2 - 2 Detroit

Blue Jays reach the ALCS for the first time since they lost the ALCS in both 2015 and 2016.  I had completely forgotten about those Blue Jay teams, even though I not only watched them -- I wrote about them for the HP.

Two more games in the Senior Circuit today (all times Central):

5:08 P.M.:  Philadelphia at Los Angeles (TBS)
8:08 P.M.:  Milwaukee at Chicago (TBS)

It is, of course, unbelievably silly to make the folks in Milwaukee and Chicago stay up until 11:30 P.M. Central to find out who won their game.  Almost no one actually sit up, by the way -- the whole Central Time Zone is usually in bed by 11 P.M. Central Time.  That Milwaukee/Chicago game would actually get more attention if it started at 1 PM Central than it will by starting so late.  And that's a real shame, because the quality of play has been very high so far.

  1. On the other hand, that Dodgers-Phillies game -- starting at 3:08 PM Pacific Time, in beautiful sunlight from Dodger Stadium -- should be a cracker.

  2. I can't believe how often this happens, but I flipped on the baseball last night just as some Dodger was releasing the pitch that a Phillie hit for the first run of the game, in the seventh inning or so. I stayed with it until the end, and it was a tremendous and (as you predicted) beautiful game.

I am rooting for the Tigers tonight and the Cubs tomorrow. I've decided to quit not revealing my rooting interests.
