1. Buffalo: 1-0
2. Philadelphia: 1-0
3. Baltimore: 0-1
4. Green Bay: 1-0
5. Kansas City: 0-1
6. Washington: 1-0
7. Los Angeles: 1-0
8. Detroit: 0-1
9. San Diego: 1-0
10. Tampa Bay: 1-0
Miami is number 26.
Once again, the NFL schedulers are generous with the fans. Tonight, we get the Number-4 Packers hosting Number-6 Washington. Sunday afternoon we get a Super Bowl rematch, with the Number-5 Chiefs hosting the Number-2 Eagles. So it should be another good weekend in front of the tube.
Now for Survivor Pool. We barely made it last week, but in Survivor Pool we just say how, not how many. This week one game stands out: the Ravens, at home, are favored by 11 1/2 points over the Browns. I normally avoid divisional games, but this game is far and away our best chance given the rest of the schedule -- and I really don't think the Ravens are going to start the season oh and two. So I'm picking Baltimore to survive.
Survivor picks so far (home teams listed first):
1. Denver 20 - 12 Tennessee
With 7:34 left in the second quarter, the Packers have 243 total yards and Washington has 23. That's not good.
ReplyDeletePackers lead 14-3 at halftime. Washington is lucky to be that close -- Green Bay had a field goal bonk off the upright at the end of the half.
ReplyDeleteMicah Parsons is just single-handedly destroying Washington's offense. Washington has yet to reach the Red Zone. With 11:54 left in the third quarter, Jayden Daniels is 11-18 for 61 yards, zero TD's, and zero INT's.
ReplyDeleteOne quarter left. GB leads 17-3. Here are Daniels's numbers: 14-24 for 88 yards, 0 TD's, and 0 INT's. The Packers look like the 85 Bears.
ReplyDeleteNo one can block Micah Parsons, and Parsons is faster than Jayden Daniel. It's an awkward combination.
ReplyDeleteBut the never-say-die Commanders keep pressing, and pick up a touchdown. GB now leads 17-10 with 13:45 left. GB has 345 total yards to 144 for Washington, but the Commanders are not dead yet.
ReplyDeleteMadisonville stuns Tilghman: 25 to 22! Amazing!
ReplyDeleteMadisonville also stunned me. My wife saw this result being shared by a bunch of her old Maroons friends on social media, and I figured this had to be a Thursday-night JV result (and was getting ready to launch into a whole thing about what are those people out in Paducah doing sending a bunch of eighth-graders and freshmen an hour and a half away from home on a school night).
DeleteBut, alas, ...
ReplyDeleteThe Packers' offense hasn't done much in the second half, but now they need to score and they do: straight down the field in a very easy 65-yard drive. The Pack leads 24-10 with 8:57 left.
Green Bay looks really, really good. They destroyed the Lions last week, and they're dominating Washington this week. Circle November 10 on the calendar: that's the day the Eagles come to Lambeau Field.
ReplyDeleteWith 8:57 left in the game, here are Jordan Love's numbers: 19-29, 292 yards, 2 TD's, zero INT's. QB rating of 121.6.
ReplyDeleteTilghman had won 18 games in a row, and had not lost a regular season game since 2022.
ReplyDeleteWith 7:42 left, the Pack takes over on downs at the Washington 41, and that should be the game.
ReplyDeleteGreen Bay calls off the pass rush, and Washington finally gets its passing game going. The Commanders score a touchdown and a two-point conversion, and now they trail 27-18 with 2:53 left.
ReplyDeleteWhy did the Packers have to ruin such a potentially uniform matchup by wearing those whites?
ReplyDeleteI'm taking an early chance with a long-view Survivor Pool play in Week 2: Cardinals over Panthers.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, my prediction is that Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa need to beat both New England on Sunday and Buffalo next Thursday, or UNC and Fox Sports are going to have to replace a football coach and game analyst, respectively, by October.
ReplyDeleteI have now canceled my monthly NFL+ subscription.
