MLB Update

The Reds beat the Pirates today 2-1.  One of the following three teams will get the last NL playoff spot:

New York:  81-77
Cincinnati:  81-78
Arizona:  80-78

The D-Backs are currently losing 8-0 to the Dodgers after 4.

Meanwhile, in the American League, three of the following four teams will get the remaining playoff spots:

Boston:  87-71
Cleveland:  86-72
Detroit:  85-73
Houston:  84-74

Right now, Houston leads the A's 7-0 in the bottom of the 4th.

  1. The AL East is still up for grabs. Both the Yankees and the Blue Jays are in the playoffs, but we don't know who will win the division. They are tied at 90-68.

  2. Cleveland has a one-game lead over Detroit in the AL Central, and they will play each other in Cleveland tonight. The Tigers have lost eight games in a row.

  3. Jahmai Jones leads off the game for Detroit by crushing a home run down the left field line, and the Tigers take an early 1-0 lead.

  7. Tigers lead 4-1 after 6. White Sox lead the Yankees 3-1 after 4. Red Sox and Blue Jays tied at zero after 5.

  8. Tigers win 4-2, and the AL Central is tied between Detroit and Cleveland. Yankees lead the ChiSox 4-3 after 6 1/2; Toronto leads Boston 6-1 in the bottom of the 7th. The Mets lead the Cubs 6-2 in the top of the 6th.
