Classic SEC Standings

Based on the CBS Sports rankings, they look like this:

3.  Georgia:  3-0
4.  LSU:  4-0
13.  Ole Miss:  4-0
15.  Tennessee:  3-1
16.  Ga. Tech:  4-0
18.  Alabama:  2-1
19.  Vandy:  4-0
27.  Auburn:  3-1
32.  Miss. St:  4-0
34.  Tulane:  3-1
59.  Florida:  1-3
63.  Kentucky:  2-1

I have also decided to go with the Classic Pac-8 instead of the Pac-10.  The Classic Pac-8 looks like this:

6.  Oregon:  4-0
21.  U.S.C.:  4-0
31.  Washington:  3-0
54.  California:  3-1
68.  U.C.L.A.:  0-3
85.  Washington St:  2-2
86.  Stanford:  1-3
91.  Oregon St:  0-4

With Arizona and Arizona St. now out of the Pac-8, we can recreate one of my favorite conferences, the Classic Western Athletic Conference.  The standings for the Classic WAC now look like this:

24.  Utah:  3-1
29.  B.Y.U.:  3-0
33.  Arizona St:  3-1
43.  Arizona:  3-0
88.  New Mexico:  2-1
89.  Colorado St:  1-2
120.  Wyoming:  2-2
126.  U.T.E.P:  1-3

One other thing:  I've decided to start rooting for U of L in all sports, because it's now obvious to me that the goal in Lexington is not to beat Tennessee -- it's to beat Louisville.  So the stronger U of L is, the more pressure UK will face to improve.  Louisville is currently ranked number 26 in the country, with a record of 3-0.  So that's a good sign for Kentucky football.

In men's basketball, on the other hand, ESPN's latest bracketology has UK as the number-3 seed in the West Regional, with U of L as the Number-5 seed in the same region.  Joe Lunardi has really outdone himself in the projected West Region.  If all the favored seeds won, the Second Round would look like something Matt Jones made up to boost ratings at Kentucky Sports Radio:

(1) Purdue v. (8) Cincinnati
(4) Arkansas v. (5) Louisville
(3) Kentucky v. (6) Michigan St.
(2) B.Y.U. v. (7) U.S.C.

  2. Meanwhile, I have tickets for the 2026 East Regional, which will be played in Washington, DC. Here's Lunardi's top 8 seeds for that region:

    (1) Duke v. (8) Mississippi St.
    (4) Auburn v. (5) Kansas
    (3) Iowa St. v. (6) N. Carolina
    (2) Michigan v. (7) Missouri

Of course, Auburn has now lost Bruce Pearl, and that could make a big difference.
