Sunday, August 29, 1971 was the last time that the Washington Senators played a game in Oakland. It was also the last meeting between the Senators and the Athletics. The two teams played a double header. In the first game, Vida Blue pitched a complete game in 2 hours and 7 minutes, and Reggie Jackson hit his 25th homer of the year. The Senators made five errors, and the A's won 4-3.
ReplyDeleteIn the second game, Catfish Hunter pitched a complete-game shutout in 2 hours and 8 minutes. Denny McLain took the loss, falling to 9-17 on the year, and the A's beat up on the Senators' bullpen, winning 9-0.
