  2. Western Kentucky is now up to 154 on Ken Pom. Next Friday, the Hilltoppers play Bowling Green, and I always get a kick out of that matchup.

  3. #Breaking: Murray State, whom Western Kentucky beat 86-81 six days ago, is beating North Carolina-Wilmington, 49-44, in the second half of a game in Fort Myers, Florida, and here's live video, and here's live (Jeff Bidwell-led) audio. As I’ve said All Along™, The Internet is Amazing™.

  4. Steve Prohm and his wife got married in Paducah in 2013. I wonder where.

  5. 10 minutes to go ... 57-52, Racers ...

  6. Murray State has started the same five guys each of its four games, and, before today, Prohm had not played any of them fewer than 26 minutes a game. Senior guard Rob Perry, junior forward Nick Ellington, junior guard Brian J. Moore, junior guard JaCobi Wood and senior guard Shawn Walker Jr. each average 10 to 16 points per game. Ellington averages a team-high 9.3 rebounds; Moore, a team-high 6.3 assists. Sophomore guard Justin Morgan is the only reserve who averages as many as 15 minutes a game, and he averages 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds.

  7. Five minutes ... Murray State 66, Wilmington 61 ...

  8. Froggy 103.7 color commentator Dave Winder notes in a timeout that a number of the Murray State players' parents have made the trip to Fort Myers for this Thanksgiving-week tournament, and I would imagine so.

  9. Last media timeout comes at 3:42 on a Murray State turnover, and North Carolina-Wilmington has cut to 66-63.

  11. 1 minute to play: 70-65, Murray State. The Racers have a one-plus-one ...

  12. Oh, ouch. Wilmington gets to within 70-68 somehow (sorry), and now Murray State has missed a long shot at the end of its possession, fouled a UNCW guy on the rebound. Wilmington hits both free throws, and suddenly it's 70-70 with 15 seconds to go!

    Timeout, Racers.

  13. Oh, cool. Murray State's Ellington scores a putback with 1.7 seconds left, and it's 72-70. North Carolina-Wilmington has to go the length of the court after a timeout.

  14. I hope Murray State wins. The Racers recently lost to WKU.

  15. Oh, my gosh! Murray is called for pushing as it intercepts the long inbounds pass. The Murray player fouls out, and Wilmington gets two free throws: Good and good. We're headed to overtime!

  16. Heartbreak for the Racers!

So I had to run off to pick up our daughter from school, and I tried tuning in the game on the radio. This was problematic because Froggy 103.7 originates from Murray or Paducah or somewhere out there, so the signal was in and out. Furthermore, our Honda Element is 19 years old, and this is the model radio that's in there. The volume dial does change the volume, but it doesn't necessarily change it in the way that you would hope. Sometimes, you turn the dial to the right, and the volume on the radio broadcast goes up. But, sometimes, you turn the dial to the right, and the volume goes down! And then there are times that you hit a bump, and everything goes into hyperspace, and you don't know where the volume is going to land.

Anyway, I knew things were not going well for Murray State in Fort Myers, because every so often I could hear Jeff Bidwell (sometimes quite loudly), and he sounded sad. Indeed, Murray State lost, 83-81. North Carolina-Wilmington led by five or six points left, and then the Racers hit a three-pointer. And then there was a scramble for the ball on the Wilmington inbounds play, and the ball went to Murray with about two seconds to play. Murray had no timeouts remaining, but the officials decided to review things on the TVs on the sidelines to make sure they had called things correctly. This made Bidwell and Winder excited because it gave Prohm time to draw up a play. And then the officials put another second on the clock, and that made Bidwell really excited. But, alas, the Racers' last gasp was a contested three-pointer, and North Carolina-Wilmington held on for its two-point win in Fort Myers.

I don't know how this tournament works. Maybe Murray State has another daytime game tomorrow. I certainly hope so--selfishly because I like listening to live games during the work day but also for the sake of all those Racer parents who made the trip down to Florida whom Winder mentioned. If nothing else, I hope they'll enjoy going out for some seafood tonight, which would be something different before all of the turkey and ham and dressing later this week.

  17. I saw the clip of that foul that sent the game to overtime. That was ridiculous. Those must have been the referees from the 1972 Gold Medal Game.
