The British Open

The last major of the year will be played at Royal Liverpool, in Hoylake, England.  The last two winners here were Tiger Woods (2006) and Rory McIlroy (2014), so we can't complain about that.

Here is the scorecard.  I like it when the holes have names.  It seems like a lot of repetition until you get to the last four holes, which feature two holes of over 600 yards and one hole of less than 140:

1 (Royal):  par 4, 459 yards
2 (Stand):  par 4, 453 yards
3 (Course):  par 4, 426 yards
4 (Road):  par 4, 367 yards
5 (Long):  par 5, 520 yards
6 (New):  par 3, 201 yards
7 (Telegraph):  par 4, 481 yards
8 (Briars):  par 4, 436 yards
9 (Dowie):  par 3, 218 yards
OUT:  par 35, 3,561 yards

10 (Far):  par 4, 507 yards
11 (Punch Bowl):  par 4, 392 yards
12 (Dee):  par 4, 449 yards
13 (Alps):  par 3, 194 yards
14 (Hilbre):  par 4, 454 yards
15 (Field):  par 5, 620 yards
16 (Lake):  par 4, 461 yards
17 (Little Eye):  par 3, 136 yards
18 (Dun):  par 5, 609 yards
IN:  par 36, 3,822 yards

TOTAL:  par 71, 7,383 yards

  4. The last amateur to win the British Open was Bobby Jones, at Royal Liverpool, in 1930.

  5. Last month, Mr. Lamprecht won the British Amateur Championship at Hillside G.C. in Southport, England. Jones famously won the British Amateur in 1930, just before he won the British Open.

  6. Mr. Lamprecht is 6' 8" tall, and he plays college golf for Georgia Tech.

  7. Wyndham Clark and Stewart Cink shot 3-under par 68's. Jordan Spieth shot a 2-under par 69. Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, and Xander Schauffele shot 1-under par 70's. No other prominent American is going to break par today.
