Some folks claim that Kentucky's greatness in basketball is simply a relic of the distant past. But that is not what Ken Pomeroy's analysis shows. Here is K-Pom's top 20 men's basketball programs from 1997 through 2022. Note that UK gets credit for only one year of Pitino in this ranking, while Coach K led Duke through every one of these seasons. (National titles in parentheses):
1. Duke (2001, 2010, 2015)
2. Kentucky (1998, 2012)
3. Kansas (2008, 2022)
4. N. Carolina (2005, 2009, 2017)
