For the first time since 1958, Wales are going to the World Cup. They will be part of a group that includes England, Iran, and the United States. Here's how the Welsh made it:
UEFA Group E:
03/24/21: Belgium 3 - 1 Wales
03/30/21: Wales 1 - 0 Czech Republic
09/05/21: Belarus 2 - 3 Wales
09/08/21: Wales 0 - 0 Estonia
10/08/21: Czech Republic 2 - 2 Wales
10/11/21: Estonia 0 - 1 Wales
11/13/21: Wales 5 -1 Belarus
11/16/21: Wales 1 - 1 Belgium
So Wales went 4-1-3 in their group, good enough for second place behind Belgium. That put Wales into a playoff group with Austria, Scotland, and Ukraine. I have no idea how that came about, or what it makes sense, but that's how the Europeans set it up. Here's how those playoffs went:
03/24/22: Wales 2 - 1 Austria
06/01/22: Scotland 1 - 3 Ukraine
06/05/22: Wales 1 - 0 Ukraine
So congratulations to the Welsh, who have waited 64 years to return to the World Cup, and who get a game with England on November 29.
Wow! That's very cool. Go, Wales!
