KHSAA Football Semi-Finals

Congratulations to Paducah Tilghman, which reaches the State title game for the first time since it won the 3A Championship back in 2009.  What an amazing run by the Big Blue Tornado.

Also congratulations to Russellville, who will be going to the State title game for the first time since 1990.

It's been a great year for old-school football programs in Western Kentucky.  Also the 6A title game is Male v. St. X, and I don't see how you could possibly get more old school than that:

Home teams listed first:

Class 6A:
Lou. Male 48 - 21 Lou. Trinity
Lou. St. Xavier 31 - 21 Madison Cent.

Class 5A:
Lex. Douglass 35 - 7 Owensboro
Woodford Co. 25 - 46 S. Warren

Class 4A:
Boyle Co. 54 - 16 Logan Co.
Johnson Cent. 42 - 24 Franklin Co.

Class 3A:
E. Carter 26 - 48 Belfry
Glasgow 20 - 39 Paducah Tilghman

Class 2A:
Beechwood 38 - 7 Mayfield
Lex. Christian 58 - 0 Middlesboro

Class 1A:
Pikeville 36 - 7 Raceland
Russellville 34 - 21 Bethlehem

So there are still 12 active teams:  two from Louisville, two from Lexington, one from Northern Kentucky, three from the Mountains, two from the Pennyrile, one from the Bluegrass (or at least Bluegrass-adjacent), and one from the Purchase.  It's rare -- and very nice -- to see everything so spread out among the regions.  This way almost everyone has a rooting interest all the way to the end.

  1. I find these to be very satisfying finals, for pretty much the reasons you mention in the last paragraph. I will be roooting for Russellville, Beechwood, Tilghman, Boyle and Male, and I'm genuinely torn between Douglass and South Warren.
