League Championship Series: Day Two

In San Diego, the Devil Rays stormed out to a 2-0 series lead over Houston, as they took the second game 4 to 2.  For some reason, the Astros hitters haven't been as hot as usual.  Hmmmm.

In Arlington, Texas, the Dodgers and Braves found themselves locked into a 2020 pitchers' dual -- a 1-1 game in the 9th when both teams used lots of pitchers and the only runs came on solo homers.  In the top of the 9th, the Dodgers -- who had already used four pitchers on the night -- turned to Former National Blake Treinen.  Watching at home, I told Number One Son, "This is Former National Blake Treinen.  He's terrible and this game will soon be over."  Soon thereafter, Austin Riley -- the Braves' number-nine hitter -- blasted a home run to put the Braves on top.  Further disaster followed, and the Braves finished with a 5-1 victory.  Here was Treinen's line on the night:

1/3 inning pitched
3 hits allowed
3 runs allowed
1 home run allowed
ERA for the night of 81.00

I think I saw Treinen throw that exact 1/3 inning at least 15 times for the Nats, and I would guess that at least five of them were against the Braves.  But to give the Nats credit, they were usually smart enough not to trust Treinen with the ninth inning of a 1-1 game in the playoffs.

National League:
Atlanta leads Los Angeles 1-0

American League:
Tampa Bay leads Houston 2-0
