League Championship Series: Day Three

Not too much drama in these series so far.  In the American League, the Astros had a third consecutive game where they could not score.  They've now lost 2-1, 4-2, and 5-2, and they are down three games to zero.  That's a total of five runs in 27 innings.  It's almost like they're used to knowing what pitches the other side is going to throw, and they've been thrown off by not having that information.

Over in the National League, the Braves and Dodgers played a rather silly game.  Clayton Kershaw couldn't go for the Dodgers, and the Braves jumped all over Dodger pitching, building a 7-0 lead after six and one-half innings.  The Dodgers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh -- but Atlanta still cruised into the bottom of the ninth with an 8-3 lead.  Then, after 17 innings of terrible baseball, the Dodgers finally woke up -- scoring four runs in the bottom of the ninth.  Of course, they still lost, 8 to 7, but at least the folks in Dallas finally had something to watch.

National League:
Atlanta leads Los Angeles 2-0

American League:
Tampa Bay leads Houston 3-0

  1. The Dodgers, now fighting for their playoff lives, have already scored two runs in the top of the first.

  2. This game is being played at Globe Life Field, in Arlington, Texas. I got to wondering what Globe Life's original name was. According to Wikipedia, the original core of Globe Life started in 1900 and was known as Liberty National Life Insurance Company. Personally, I prefer Liberty National to Globe Life.

  3. Joc Pederson slams a three-run homer to left-center field, and the Dodgers lead 5-0 in the top of the first.

  5. Ironically, this is how the Braves went out last year -- they were playing Game Five of their NLDS against the Cardinals, and the Cardinals put up 10 runs in the top of the first.

  6. The Braves have changed pitchers, but the inning continues. Dodgers now lead 7-0.

  7. Max Muncy hits a GRAND SLAM, and the Dodgers lead 11-0 in the top of the first. So far, the Dodgers have sent 13 men to the plate, and 11 of them have scored.

  8. I hope somewhere there's an 11-year-old Dodgers fan who's enjoying this as much as I would have in 1977.

  9. The Dodgers are finally retired. So after one-half inning, it's the Dodgers 11, the Braves coming up to bat.
