Album Reviews: Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, and Miranda Lambert

Hey, I'm Just Like You. So the story goes that Tegan and Sara were working on a memoir and came across a bunch of demo tapes they had made during their teen years. They went through those songs, pulled out the strongest, got a producer and recorded them into this album. As a writer of any type I would imagine it is very difficult to go back and try and work with content that you wrote 20 or more years ago. But as a successful artist or pair of artists who now find yourself in a completely different place and time both physically and emotionally I would think it would be exceptionally hard to do this. But they make it work. The music they have structured around the lyrics are spot on and they really make these youthful lyrics come to life. I really liked their last album and I find this one to be a 3 star out of 5 album as well.

Interpreting the Masters, Van Halen. I really liked their Hall and Oates album, and this one is interesting, but just doesn't work for me. Perhaps I'm not a big enough Van Halen fan. I give this album 1 out of 5 stars.

Wildcard. I always think I'm gonna like Miranda Lambert better than I do. The problem is I'm just not a big fan of the "I'm a country artist song" and that makes up a good chunk of her work. So that portion of the album is always lost to me. All that being said this album has a solid set of songs on it. If you like Miranda Lambert I would think you're happy with this album. If you are new to her this is a good one to give a try. I give this one 2 out of 5 stars.

  1. I liked the Van Halen cover OK. Wasn't familiar with these people.
