What's On TV Today and Tonight (1972)?

  1. Well, this football game has turned out to be pretty fun. It was just a bunch of punting back and forth for most of the first two hours. Nebraska futzed around and got a couple of scores, but now Oklahoma has scored 17 straight points to take a three-point lead with 8:44 to go in the fourth quarter. Until these last few minutes, I've mostly been interested in the malt-liquor and Chevrolet commercials (the new Vegas look good), but now I'm getting pretty dialed in to Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson.

  2. Wilkinson as Johnny Rodgers is tackled on the ensuing-kickoff return at the Nebraska 23 or so: "I don't believe I've seen or even heard of a game where Rodgers didn't break one at some point."

  3. One of the stars of the Oklahoma comeback has been Tinker Owens, a freshman end who has caught five passes for more than 100 yards. He's the brother of former Sooner great Steve Owens, and he came into the game only when Oklahoma's top receiver, John Carroll, was injured.

  4. With about seven minutes to go, Nebraska shanks a punt, and Oklahoma takes over at its 34 with the three-point lead. Wilkinson says his old team will now try to run off the clock with its wishbone attack that has led the nation in rushing this season.

  5. But on third-and-2, Nebraska upsets an Oklahoma runner after only one yard, and the Sooners have to punt ... to Rodgers ...

  6. "The punt was low, and I thought Rodgers would be able to return it," Wilkinson says. "And had he not bobbled it, he may very well have."

  9. Now Oklahoma has third-and-4 from the Nebraska 32 coming up, and ABC will take a break to hear from Joe Namath and popcorn with 1:56 to play. OK, my family had one of these Hamilton Beach poppers when I was a kid, and it was freaking amazing! The butter drips down from the top, and it's wonderful. I am now watching an eBay auction on one of these bad boys from a seller in Cape Girardeau, Missouri!
