Tony Oliva and Harmon Killebrew are now 1-2 in American League batting average—.407 and .336, respectively. Oliva leads the league in home runs (nine); Killebrew, in runs batted in (25). Boog Powell is second in both of those categories (seven and 24).

The A’s were off yesterday 1971 after sweeping a May 9 doubleheader with the Orioles on the strength of complete-game pitching from Vida Blue and then Jim Hunter. Blue started off the season with a loss, and now he’s on a streak of eight straight complete-game victories.
