Album Review: Ep1 by FKA twigs

So normally I only review new releases, but this EP from FKA twigs came out in 2012. It has just been made available for streaming services so it's my first time hearing it. What can you say she's a very interesting artist. She is uniquely her own thing. What's interesting in listening to this EP and thinking about seeing her perform live is that though her music is very experimental it is very stripped down and translates very well to a personal live performance. Funny but for an experimental artist this EP has the feel of live music more than studio. Maybe this is what makes her so interesting. She feels more like an artist in many ways than a musician. Some of it works, some of it doesn't, but it's interesting and you're curious to see what will come next.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad. I have to say I look forward to seeing what she does next.

  1. I like the song in the video a good bit. This isn't fair to FKA twigs because I imagine she's not consciously connecting to this at all, but her song here makes me happy in part because it reminds me of "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" by The Postal Service, which I had not thought of in years but love so much.
