TUCFC: 2016 Week 13 Bonus Coverage

Every so often I write about how I think the college football playoff should be structured.  Well this is my latest.

First we would fix the conferences to look something like this.

ACC - Division 1

Next we would reduce the schedule down to 10 games during the regular season instead of 12 and we would eliminate conference championship games.  All division winners would get an automatic bid.  You would only be allowed to play other FBS schools, no FCS schools allowed.

The final games of the regular season would happen as they do now on Thanksgiving weekend.  The 32 team tournament would start the first weekend in December.  Bowl games could still happen for schools with a 6 win record as they do now.

There would be a blind draw to determine home and away for each of the initial 16 games.  This would set the four groups as well.  The round of 16, 8, 4, and 2 would be played at neutral sites.  Of course with it being random draw sites could end up being not so neutral.

The championship game would be played on new years day.

Here is what this years tournament could look like.

Group A
USC at Wyoming
Wisconsin at Washington

Temple at Auburn
Florida St at Washington St

Group B
Florida at Nebraska
Tennessee at Arkansas St

Notre Dame at Ohio St
Boise St at Clemson

Group C
Western Kentucky at Baylor
Louisville at Alabama

Virginia Tech at San Diego St
Western Michigan at Louisiana Tech

Group D
Navy at Penn St
Michigan at Stanford

Colorado at Ohio
Appalachian St at Oklahoma

  1. This would be a great tournament. All of us WKU people (of course) would think you all rigged it to pair us to potentially play Louisville (or even worse, Alabama) in Round 2 and that you cleared the path for your little darlings up at Western Michigan.

Tough draws for Florida State and Tennessee. I think those are going to be the big first-round upsets.
