Oh, Kentucky

The big winners in the statewide business-plan competition, “Idea State U,” were the University of Louisville team of developers of an app to help people find workout partners and an Owensboro Community and Technical College team of inventors of a waterproof swimwear liner for women. But the one that sounds best to me is the “Mow Mi” people from EKU.

Good jobs news for Boston. Bad from the western coalfields.

The Glasgow Daily Times reports that United Way told the local city council that it plans to open a "2-1-1" call center in Bowling Green, which would process calls from 10 counties for food, shelter, utility, mental-health, substance-abuse, aging and employment services.

The Courier-Journal reports that about 13 percent of Kentucky's schoolchildren have had a parent incarcerated. That's nearly twice the national average.
