Here are the top three college basketball teams in each of the historic regions that the NCAA used when I was growing up:

EAST:
1.  Virginia (24-6)
2.  Villanova (27-4)
3.  N. Carolina (25-6)

MIDEAST:
1.  Michigan St. (26-5)
2.  Kentucky (23-8)
3.  Indiana (25-6)

MIDWEST:
1.  Kansas (27-4)
2.  Oklahoma (24-6)
3.  Louisville (23-8) (Not eligible for NCAA Tournament)

WEST:
1.  Arizona (24-7)
2.  Oregon (25-6)
3.  California (22-9)
