Album Review: Purple by Baroness

So back in 2012 while on tour in England, Baroness were involved in a bus accident in which all of their members were injured and a couple of their members soon after left the band. This is their first proper album since that accident forced lineup changes. I knew nothing about Baroness before putting on this album but they have a solid heavy metal sound. This album has a good collection of tracks that are all heavy with hooks. But there is something off about this album and maybe their sound, if I went back and listened to their earlier stuff. It is missing something and so for me, though I like the sound pretty good, I found the album drifting into the background and losing my attention.

I could see picking off some songs for a workout mix or putting the album on, minus a few songs, for a weight training session, but can't really see it being at the top of my list when I want to pick an album to listen to. Following the Rhapsody rating method I give the album 1 out of 5 stars for Just OK.

  1. Speaking of mixes for workouts and weight-training sessions, I watched a 1970 NHL game on YouTube and folded laundry while running in place for 20 minutes in the living room last night.
