Album Review: Love Life by Tamia

I liked this album from the minute I put it on. This one is quite simple to put into context. So let's say your a 24 year old guy and you are involved in some mad-capped summer romance. You get invited over to your summer fling's house for dinner and she's playing this album. There's a good chance this album is going to be a big part of your summer.

I have complained on here about modern R&B being unable to distinguish between sexy and raunchy but this album has no problems with it whatsoever. It's a fun, sexy album that delivers from the first moment what you want and expect from it.

So I like this album quite a bit, but there are a few problems that keep it from being a three star album for me. The first is the throw away song at the end of the album "Black Butterfly." It's a solid cover, but it simply doesn't fit with the feel of the rest of the album which really does all blend nicely together. The other problem is that there are too many songs in which our singer is in a subservient role. On an album like this I think it would have been interesting to pick a variety of songs about love and relationships that would show all the different sides a woman can play. I feel like that doesn't really get done here. Lastly there isn't a real stand out song on the album. This is a solid R&B pop album, but it doesn't have that one sure fire hit song.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
