College Baseball Update

Most teams wrapped up the regular season last weekend.  Here is the top 20, according to Baseball America.  Defending national champions in bold:

1.  Louisiana St:  46-9
2.  UCLA:  40-12
3.  Louisville:  42-14
4.  Illinois:  45-6
5.  Texas Christian:  43-9
6.  Florida:  40-15
7.  Vanderbilt:  39-17
8.  Missouri St:  41-10
9.  Texas A & M:  43-10
10.  UC-Santa Barbara:  39-13
11.  Dallas Baptist:  41-11
12.  Oklahoma St:  34-17
13.  Miami (Fla.):  42-13
14.  Houston:  39-17
15.  USC:  35-17
16.  Arizona St:  32-19
17.  Florida St:  37-19
18.  College of Charleston:  41-11
19.  Iowa:  38-14
20.  Arkansas:  33-20

Here's how the SEC Regular Season ended (conference games only):

Eastern Division
(7) Vanderbilt:  20-10
(6) Florida:  19-11
Missouri:  15-15
Kentucky:  14-15
S. Carolina:  13-17
Tennessee:  11-19
Georgia:  10-19

Western Division
(1) Louisiana St:  21-8
(9) Texas A & M:  18-10
(20) Arkansas:  17-12
Mississippi:  15-14
Auburn:  13-17
Alabama:  12-18
Mississippi St:  8-22

Georgia and Mississippi State -- who have both reached the finals of the College World Series in recent years -- have reached the end of their seasons.  Everyone else goes to Hoover, Ala. for the SEC Tournament.

Here's how the OVC ended (conference games only).  Teams marked with an "x" are not eligible for the OVC Tournament in Jackson, Tenn.  As you can see, it was a rough year for Eastern and Murray.

SE Missouri St:  22-8
Morehead St:  20-10
SIU-Edwardsville:  19-11
Tennessee Tech:  16-14
Jacksonville St:  15-14
Belmont:  15-14
x-Austin Peay:  15-15
x-E. Kentucky:  12-17
x-Murray St:  11-19
x-UT-Martin:  9-20
x-E. Illinois:  9-21

Western also had a rough year -- the Tops will not be attending the C-USA Tournament.  They came in 11th place in Conference USA, with a conference record of 10-19, and an overall record of 24-28.  So U of L, UK, and Morehead are the only schools from the Commonwealth that still have a chance to win the National Championship.

  1. I'm rooting for Vanderbilt to repeat, over Louisville. And I'm rooting for Morehead and UK to win their conference tournaments.
