District Tournaments

Last week we had the district tournaments for boys' basketball.  Here were the scores from the final games in the eight district tournaments in our end of the Commonwealth.  All sixteen of these schools will advance to the regionals, which start this week:

FIRST REGION:
1st District (at Carlisle Co.):  Carlisle Co. 59, Fulton City 50
2d District (at Tilghman):  Paducah Tilghman 55, St. Mary 46
3d District (at Ballard Mem.):  Graves Co. 58, Ballard Mem. 44
4th District (at Murray):  Calloway Co. 49, Murray 45 (OT)

Note:  McCracken County, which won the First Region last year, was beaten 62-57 in the first round of district play.  So the Stang Gang will be staying home this year.

Second Note:  It will be very odd to hold a First Region tournament without Marshall County.

SECOND REGION:
5th District (at Livingston Cent.):  Trigg Co. 40, Crittenden Co. 37
6th District (at Henderson Co.):  Henderson Co. 59, Webster Co. 47
7th District (at Caldwell Co.):  Madisonville-N. Hopkins 61, Caldwell Co. 55
8th District (at Hopkinsville):  Hopkinsville 98, University Heights 56

Note:  The 8th District tournament is always interesting, because one of the three schools in Christian County has to be eliminated. This year Christian County was 14-10, and U Heights was 7-20.  In the last game of the regular season, County beat U Heights 105-77.  But in the district semi-finals, U Heights won 86-80, and County's season was finished.

  1. The Etown girls rolled, 64-27, past Bardstown in their Fifth Region opener yesterday. McCracken County did qualify in the First Region, so I will be rooting for them in the girls tournament.

  2. With the Mustangs out of the boys tournament, I am rooting for Murray, which is coached by a fellow Class of '86er, Bart Flener of Caverna. I am also rooting for Madisonville-North Hopkins and former state champs Edmonson County, Logan County, Etown, PRP, Male, Shelby County, Holmes, Mason County, Madison Central, Corbin, Knott County Central, Shelby Valley and Blazer.
