Album Review: The Man Upstairs by Robyn Hitchcock

My last album to review for 2014 is this quiet folk album from Robyn Hitchcock. He's a guy who has been an important influence on all the indie pop of my generation and someone I have honestly not listened to very much.  His name I know, his work, not so much.

Now at 61 Hitchcock has teamed up with Joe Boyd who famously produced people like Nick Drake to produce a very Nick Drake sounding folk record.

It's about half new material and half covers and it works quite well.  The songs he picks to cover are wonderful choices.  I love his take on "The Ghost in You" an old Psychedelic Furs song.

If you are looking for some quiet folk music to put on and you grew up influenced by 80's alternative, this would be a good pick.  Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.
