World Series, Game Two

With their season on the line, the Kansas City Royals did something last night that no one else has done in this post-season -- they beat up on the San Francisco pitching staff.  Going into the bottom of the 6th, the score was tied at 2, and it appeared that the stage was set for the Giants to grind out yet another victory.  But in the 6th, Giants starter Jake Peavy gave up a lead-off single to Lorenzo Cain and a walk to Eric Hosmer.  That was all for Peavy, who was replaced by Jean Machi.  Over and over in this post-season, the Giants' bullpen has been impregnable in these types of situation.  But Billy Butler singled in Cain to make it 3-2.  Javier Lopez came in to replace Machi, and he got Alex Gordon to fly out.  Then the Giants brought in Hunter Strickland -- who threw a wild pitch and then allowed a two-run double by Salvador Perez.  That made it 5-2.  Finally, Omar Infante hit a two-run homer to make the score 7-2, and that's how it ended.  The Royals scored more runs in this game than the Tigers did against San Francisco in the entire 2012 World Series.

So we've had a 7-1 win for the Giants and a 7-2 win for the Royals.  Each team has been bloodied, and now we're off to San Francisco to see whether this will be another short series or whether we will finally get a long one.

Kansas City and San Francisco are tied 1-1

  1. Every time I hear that Billy Butler is coming up to bat for the Royals, I think to myself, "Wow! Brett Butler is still playing." And then Billy Butler gets up to the plate, and he looks and plays almost nothing like Brett Butler did.

  2. I haven't paid much attention to the Series so far, but I'm starting to get excited about Game Three.
