NFL AP Poll: Week 12

The Seahawks lost again, and at 3-3 they are out of the top 10 altogether.  So are the 4-3 Forty-Niners, who were drubbed by Denver.  Meanwhile, the Packers and Ravens have clawed their way back into contention, while the Cowboys continue their drive to the top.  The NFC East was supposed to be down this year, but the Cowboys and Eagles didn't get that message:

1.  Denver Broncos:  5-1
2.  Dallas Cowboys:  6-1
3.  Philadelphia Eagles:  5-1
4.  Indianapolis Colts:  5-2
5.  Arizona Cardinals:  5-1
6.  Green Bay Packers:  5-2
7.  San Diego Chargers:  5-2
8.  New England Patriots:  5-2
9.  Baltimore Ravens:  5-2
10.  Detroit Lions:  5-2

The Dolphins (3-3) jump from 23d to 15th after a big win at Chicago.  The Redskins' victory over Tennessee improved their record to 2-5, and they went from 28th to 27th in the rankings.  Washington is going to Dallas this Monday night, so I don't expect the Skins to move up much further.

The best game this week may be the Thursday Night game between the number 1 Broncos and the number 7 Chargers.  But that game is in Denver, and San Diego isn't likely to cause too much trouble for Peyton Manning on the Broncos' home field.  So the real Game of the Week will probably be in Phoenix, where the number 5 Cardinals will host the number 3 Eagles in an old-time NFC East match-up.  These two squads have met 115 times, and their all-time record against each other is 55-55-5.  How cool is that?

  1. Last night might well have honestly been the first time that it didn't even occur to me that a regular-season NFL game was taking place.
