Album Review: This Is My Hand by My Brightest Diamond

When I am listening to these albums a lot of times I am thinking of how I would describe them to myself so that I could have an understanding of what the artist sounds like without actually hearing them. The fun thing about My Brightest Diamond is that it forced me to think of artists I'm pretty sure I've never mentioned on this blog.

My Brightest Diamond is the project of Shara Worden a classically trained singer. What that will tell you is that she can sing. What it doesn't tell you is that she is an interesting songwriter. I've never heard My Brightest Diamond before this album, but it is interesting musically and lyrically. It takes inspiration from artists like Laurie Anderson, Clannad, and Bjork. It's funny to listen to something and find yourself remembering Laurie Anderson and Clannad all in the same moment.

All that being said, though I find it an interesting album and an OK listen it is not something I will be coming back to. Perhaps if I were still single and living in Philadelphia I might throw this album on while I was cleaning the apartment, but not something I would throw on to clean the house with the family.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. This sounds like a song that good musicians would love.

  2. I think she looks like Meryl Streep in this video. You know from around the time that she made that comedy with Albert Brooks about the afterlife.
