Album Review: Who's Feeling Young Now? by Punch Brothers

OK I've never heard of these guys and I've never heard of progressive bluegrass, but this album is not bad. It has a wonderful sound and is a solid mix of both experimental music and melodic music.

I have probably listened to this album now 10 to 15 times and I've enjoyed it every time I've played it. I have not gone out of my way to play it, I didn't add it to my phone for instance to listen to while walking or driving, but none the less I like the album. It has a very interesting textured feel that they manage to pull off very well. I don't know that I've heard that sort of textured music that still has a real personal feel to it since Big Country.

If you're having a cool and rainy day and you want to sit around and play board games this would be a good album to put on.

Following the Rhapsody rating method I give it 2 out of 5 stars for Not Bad.

  1. Well one cool thing is the rise of Chris Thile. I can remember his 1994 album Leading Off when he was 12. He's gone on to be a part of Nickel Creek and now The Punch Brothers. He's still doing solo albums his latest is a collection of Bach Sonatas and Partitas.

  2. Do you think that picture on the cover is meant to be a reference to "The Allman Brothers Live at Fillmore East"?
