Murray State Wins the CIT Tournament!

The last time we checked on the Murray State Racers, they had been eliminated from the OVC Tournament in a heartbreaking 86-83 loss to Eastern Kentucky.  But the Racers were invited to the College Insider.com Tournament.  Here is what the Racers did (home teams listed first):

1st Round:  Missouri St. 63 - 66 Murray St.
2nd Round:  Murray St. 86 - 62 Nebraska-Omaha
Quarter-finals:  Murray St. 85 - 73 Towson
Semi-finals:  Murray St. 98 - 75 Pacific

Notice that after the first round, Murray was able to play at home -- in large part because of its excellent fan support.  Murray also got to host the final tonight, taking on the Yale Bulldogs.  The Racers led most of the second half, and took the title with a 65-57 victory.

Murray State finishes with a record of 23-11 overall and 13-3 in the OVC.  The Racers finished first in the OVC West, and they won the College Insider.com Tournament.  After going 5-7 in their first 12 games, the Racers went 18-4 the rest of the way.  That is very impressive, especially given that Murray State ranked 240th in experience, making them one of the youngest teams in the country.  We are very excited to see what they will do next year.

  1. Murray's run through the CIT tournament moved them from 155 to 115 in Ken Pomeroy's rankings.
