MLB Playoffs, Day One

This year's baseball playoffs started with more of a whimper than a bang.  The feel-good story of the year has been Pittsburgh, which is in the playoffs after its first winning season since 1992.  But the Pirates have drawn a tough opponent in the Cardinals, who seem to play deep into October almost every year.  And the Cardinals took Pittsburgh to school yesterday -- the nervous Pirates made three errors, got only four hits, and were hammered in St. Louis by the score of 9-1.  In the other National League series, Clayton Kershaw -- the best pitcher you've never seen -- totally dominated the Braves in Atlanta, as the Dodgers cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Today, the American League gets going, so we will have four games to watch.  We will hope that at least one of them is really good.

National League Divisional Series (Best of Five):
St. Louis leads Pittsburgh 1-0
Los Angeles leads Atlanta 1-0

American League Divisional Series (Best of Five):
Boston and Tampa Bay are tied 0-0
Oakland and Detroit are tied 0-0
