U.S. Women's Open -- Day One

Inbee Park, who has already won five tournaments -- and both major tournaments -- this year, is off with a bang.  She is 4 under through 12 holes, and is tied for the lead with Caroline Hedwall of Sweden.  Miss Lydia Ko, who was Low Amateur last year and who is still an amateur, is 2 under through 10 holes.  The Low American so far is Brittany Lincicome, who is also 2 under through 10 holes.

More updates in the comments as events warrant.

  2. The morning rounds are complete and Inbee Park is still in the lead. The Low American in the morning was Natalie Gulbis, who shot a two-under par 70. Stacy Lewis shot a one-under par 71. Miss Lydia Ko ended up shooting an even-par 72.

  4. We're glad to see that the USGA has gone back to the scoreboard featuring every golfer's national flag.

  5. The last woman to win the first three majors of the year was Babe Didrickson Zaharias, who was also the subject of one of those great made-for-TV sports/cancer movies they used to make back in the 1970's. Back in 1950, there were only three major tournaments for women, and the Mighty Babe won them all.

  6. Hold the phone. I.K. Kim is now challenging Inbee Park. Park continues to sit atop the leaderboard at 5 under par, but I.K. Kim is four under through 12 holes.

Jessica Korda, who is three under through 11 holes, is currently Low American.

  7. I.K. Kim is 5 under through 14 holes, tied for the lead with Inbee Park. Another Korean golfer, Ha-Neul Kim, is 3 under through 11 holes.

No American golfer is better than two shots under par.

  8. Michelle Wie shot an 80 today, so you won't be seeing much of her on your televisions.

  9. Morgan Pressel shot a one-over par 73, so she's not out of it.

  10. Lisette Salas shoots a 4-under par 68 to take over as Low American. She's only one shot off the lead.

  11. Ha-Neul Kim makes another birdie to move to 5 under through 15 holes. So we have a three-way tie for the lead between Inbee Park, I.K. Kim, and Ha-Neul Kim.

  12. Yani Tseng, who was the top golfer in the world for most of the last few years, is in the middle of a slump that has seen her fall to number 7. That slump continues, as she shoots a four-over par 76.

  13. I.K. Kim bogeys the last hole and finishes with a 4-under par 68.

Her playing partner, Paula Creamer -- the 2010 Champ -- birdies the last hole to finish with an even par 72.

And that's all for ESPN's coverage for today.
