Miss Emma Talley Won the SEC Golf Freshman of the Year Award

The Marion desk brought this to our attention last week, but we're just now getting around to it.  Miss Emma Talley of Princeton, Kentucky was named the SEC's Freshman of the Year after a season in which she compiled a 73.2 average, shot par or better in 12 of her 26 rounds, posted four top-10 finishes, and won the PING/ASU Invitational.  She also contributed to an Alabama team that won the SEC Tournament and the East Regional Championships.

Next week, the Tide will head to Athens, Georgia for the NCAA Women's Golf Championships.

  1. Through 13 holes in today's second round, Emma Talley is 1-under and tied for ninth in the NCAA Division I women's golf championship in Athens, Ga. Her University of Alabama teammate, Stephanie Meadow, is 8-under for tournament lead through 12 holes of today's final round. Southern Cal is running away with the team championship.

    2. Still 2-under through 17 ... but now up to a tie for seventh ... down to the last hole of her freshman season ...

    3. And Miss Talley closes at 2-under for the tournament. That puts her in eighth place for now, with most of the leaders also finishing up. Miss Meadow, her Alabama teammate and a junior, held her lead at 8-under. A San Jose State golfer, Regan De Guzman, is yet to tee off, and she was 5-under after yesterday.

    4. THIS JUST IN! The NCAA reportedly will continue its women's golf tournament for two more rounds (!). The HP women's college golf desk is working feverishly to confirm rumors. If they turn out to be true, Miss Talley could still end up winning the whole thing!

Stand by the HP for more late-breaking (and, let me remind you, free) coverage!
