1975: Turning to sports, ...

Here's the sports 411 from the Bangor (Me.) Daily News as of this morning, Friday, Dec. 19, 1975.

My Dolphins' postseason prospects aren't as bright as a quick glance at these standings would suggest. After last week's loss to "the surprise team of the NFL," the Baltimore Colts, Miami needs a win at home tomorrow afternoon against the Broncos and then Baltimore loss at home against the Patriots to win another AFC East championship. At least Bob Griese looked fantastic in Week 13.

Jack Nicklaus was looking good all year long.

The defending-champ Golden State Warriors again look like the class of the NBA.

Like my NBA Washington Bullets, my ABA Kentucky Colonels are sputtering a bit in the early going.

And the college-football bowls start tonight!

  1. I miss the Blue-Gray Game. And the Tangerine Bowl.

  2. Kentucky went all the way to the final in 1974-75, but they lost a lot of seniors, and they are off to a rocky start for 1975-76. They started off with a loss at Northwestern. Then they went to Charlotte and lost to UNC. Then they picked wins over Miami (Ohio) at home and Kansas on the road. Then they played Indiana in Louisville, and lost in overtime. So they are 2-3, and ranked number 20 in the country. Tonight they host Georgia Tech in the first round of the UKIT.
